Valentines

This may be Ava's new favorite holiday--when she found out she gets to bring special cards to the whole class tomorrow she about died with excitement and then she spent a lot of time chosing just the right card for each kid and carefully spelling their names. She keeps telling me she just loves kindergarten!

Cutting hair

Jack's been getting buzz cuts for awhile now and we've learned the most efficient way to clean up is to just vaccuum the floor and him.

She's a lucky girl!

Yummy

These two were supposed to be clearing the table but instead they were chowing down the last of the salad as fast as possible. They like their salad but what could make them want some lettuce, feta, and nuts so bad they didn't even dish it up?
Ta da! Our new favorite dressing. Yummy.

Brant and the baby

The Madsons were in town for the weekend so one night after the kids were in bed they came on over and Jemma got to stay up late to see them. The thing about Brant is that he is a baby guy, in fact one of my first memories of him was at a BBQ that I went to when Ed was out of town. I had a tiny Ava and she was just at the stage of wanting to be held standing up and Brant held her (and bounced and walked with her) the entire time while I got to just sit and relax. It was great! We miss you guys (and not just for the help with the babies)!

Recent conversations with a three year old

Jack was walking round the edge of his top bunk when I walked by:
"Hey mom, this doesn't seem like a good idea."
*************************************
He came to see me holding tightly round the neck of Ava's babydoll:
"Dis my baby" while pounding on her back.
"What's her name?"
"I don't know (shrug) I'm just the daddy."
"Are you a good daddy?"
"Not really (pause) but I'm a really good brother."
***************************************
Playing in his room with his Lincoln Logs:
"Hey mom! we got a problem in here!"
"What's the problem Jack, did you lose some pieces?"
"No, I can't read these direct-tions"
(like maybe he could read those ones but not these ones)
***************************************
In the car, running errands while he was cracking me up:
"Jack, you're really good company."
"Why? Cause I'm so tough?"
"No not cause you're tough"
"I'm not tough?"
"No Jack, you're tough but that's not why you're good company"
"I'm not good company?"
"No Jack, you are good company"
"Why? Cause I'm so tough?"

My sad ballerina

Due to a series of mishaps Ava didn't make it to ballet yesterday and to make it worse she was already dressed and ready to go which made for one sad girl. However, a quick thinking Jack suggested some hot chocolate to cheer her up and it of course worked like magic!

Jemma Jane is three months old!

Can you believe it?

She is such a sweetie! She is on a fantastic schedule that I am sure will change soon so I feel like I should knock on wood as I right this. She sleeps 8:00-7:30, eats and then sleeps till 10:00. Then she hangs out with me and Jack till it's time to pick up Ava and she takes a mini nap in the car and then is up till 2:00. One of her favorite parts of the day is sitting on the counter in her seat while the kids eat lunch and chatter about their mornings--she always thinks they are talking to her and she just smiles and coos. She usually naps from 2:00-5:00 (or 5:30) and then she's up for a couple hours before bed. If she's fussy then she wants to just go to bed and if it's not quite bedtime, she will lay and coo at her mobile and kick her bare feet. She puts herself to sleep if the room is dark, the mobile's on, and she has her thumb to suck. She smiles and talks a lot but it takes a little work to get her giggling and she always seems surprised when she hears it! She LOVES to talk to Jack and gives him some of her best smiles. Jack and I love to spend the morning just squishing and kissing her--neither of us can get enough of her chubby cheeks and fat little hands!

One more...

Cuddle buddies.

Pilates

Ava is my pilates buddy--sadly she has better form than me. AND she always brings her music out to keep us motivated...let me tell ya that nothing motivates you to finish sooner than listening to the Little People's version of "The wheels on the bus"!

Super bowl fun!

The kids partied hard and got out every toy in the house!

The guys, lounging after eating all the food and downing all the PBR.

Second Call...

Hey runners,
Our running group started off right this weekend with a pretty big group (and more coming next week!), above freezing temps (woo hoo), and a lot of chatting! More details on the running blog--if you are at all interested in joining, let me know and I'll send ya an invite! Out-of-towners welcome too!

More fun with Ben and Sara

Ava was of course thrilled to have Ben to play with--she fed him a steady supply of Cheerios, read him books, and made him giggle. (Ruby stayed close by to catch any stray Cheerios)

Sara was a little sad Saturday but holding Jemma cheered her right up! She's holding on awfully tight here but Jemma was a good sport.

Cowboy Day

Ava has officially had 100 days of Kindergarten and to celebrate they had cowboy day--she looked forward to this all week even if her cheesy smile here doesn't show it!
