here's something ridiculous
I've spent 36 years without any long term habits--no smoking, drinking, or biting my nails. And yet somehow, in the last month, I've become totally addicted to an afternoon cup of coffee.
I blame McDonalds iced coffees--my gateway drug to the real deal.
more basketball
There is a mom on Jack's team who takes awesome sports shots and I'll load some of those soon but here's one of mine from Jack's tourney in Grangeville today:
Tip-off--and their giant player knocks our tallest guy flat. It's a rough road but these kids have so much heart--they play every game like the win is within two points. And watching Jack cheer for his teammates makes me want to cry every.single.time.
It's fun to be a mom.
Spring birthdays!
We have a lot of them and it's been a busy spring so we finally celebrated Stephen, Jack, Madison, Ava, and Will:
(you'll see Jack's mom forgot his cake and had to steal one from Will's plate)
Happy Birthday Ava!
She's 12!
I wanted to take the day off and go shopping in Spokane but she's too responsible for that so I settled for an afternoon of lunch and shopping. It's always a pleasure to spend the day with this girl. She's smart and funny, and somehow so grownup. That evening was the school ball which is pretty much the best birthday party you could ask for:
We are SO proud of Ava.
I can't tell you how often we look at each other and think we do not deserve her. But man, we're happy she's ours.
this is my kind of spring!
We've been lunching outside, Jack comes home from school and hits the neighborhood till dark, and the amount of sunshine we're getting makes us all happy campers.
life.
Ava has spent the last two months playing basketball and practicing for the junior high play--some days not getting home till 7:00 (or even 8:30!), Jack's playing club basketball, and Ed's back to traveling. I love it all. But sometimes we find ourselves at Baskin Robbins at bedtime, celebrating something or other when someone points out we haven't yet had dinner.
Winter Vacation!
Some people like to winter at the beach. We, however, like to winter in the mountains.
Although we were pleasantly surprised to spend the first day in shorts and tees (not me, of course, just these silly Idaho kids):
Oh wait, the cool people don't wear plaid shorts and winter coats?
Daddy giving a lesson in skipping rocks.
The doodle.
On Valentine's morning, we woke to Ava's heart shaped biscuits and gravy.
epic army guy battle.
That's Ava's responsible hand there making sure he doesn't fall in while I just snap pictures.
running to explore
cigars with grandpa
Jemma found a heart shaped rock she was convinced God left for her to find for valentines day.
Valentines lunch in town.
checking out the bird's nest
leftovers with grandma before hitting the road for home (and poring over the bird book)
This trip is always fantastic but this year in particular I was struck by the fact that my kids are big. There are no piles of diapers, playpens, and bottles. There is no panic over ideal sleeping conditions. There is no hiking with kids on our back--even the baby hiked a mile and a half straight up hill, stopping to point out the view. These are good days.
Manners Dinner.
Lovely table, stunning girl.
The kids love this dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's--they eat tricky food, learn the art of conversation, and follow it up with dancing.
I grew something!!
For the first time ever, I have successfully grown an indoor plant.
Honestly, my kids are so proud they talked about it for weeks.
superbowl.
We were really pumped for the Superbowl this year. I mean matching food, drink, and fingernails pumped. Jack know every guy, every play, and spent the week leading up watching Seahawk history and greatest hits. And somehow making snowmen at half time was the best part:
Writing about it now is still painful.
