Road Trip.

Once again for Spring Break this year, we loaded up eight cute kids, a grandma, and a great aunt and headed to the coast.  You can imagine what a production we are:

This year, we decided to stop for a night in Seattle where we promptly hit the pool and then the free appetizers (and open bar!):

um yes.  There was a mermaid.  Henry was equally confused.

We caught the (rainy) ferry

These two!

And then, since we spent a day in Seattle and couldn't pack food, we hit Costco:
by this point it felt like we'd been on the road for two days.
Which we had.
But we rallied nicely with some Costco pizza, got back in the car for another hour and when we were just two miles from the beach house, we came up on this:
a downed tree in the middle of the road.
Full traffic stop. No way around.
My mom and Jeanette promptly unloaded the kids and took off on foot.
And soon discovered that the people renting the house before us were still there, also stuck.  So they took the kids to the beach to wait.  We eventually showed up, unloaded in the rain, discovered the power was out, said hello to the ocean, loaded up on cold pizza, hung out by candlelight, and then shivered off to bed.

And then I think hysteria set in:

The good news is the power came on sometime in the night.
