dinner date

We took these two on a little dinner date the other night and I gotta say they might have been our best double date yet!  They are the best little conversationalists--funny and interested.
It is such a joy to really like my little people.

Jack.

Jack's team has been practicing for over a month and he finally had his first scrimmage--I love watching this kid play.  He can somehow be dead serious and smiling at the same time.
And his teacher this year had the kids all write something anonymously about their classmates and then printed them up for a Christmas gift:
I just loved this!

could she be any cuter?

Henry.

My baby had his first ever Christmas concert this year.
He was pumped and his teacher said he was in the front row because he was nice and loud!  Surprise.  That's the handsome bugger himself in the red sweater, upfront and center.

Ava.

Ava just finished up basketball and we were SO proud of her this year.
Let's be honest, Ava is probably the nicest girl we know so teaching her to be aggressive took some serious doing (and a couple seasons of ball).  And she went out this year like a different player--stealing, rebounding, and scoring.  We are looking forward to jr high ball in the spring!

Ava has perfected her gingerboys this year.
Which is not easy with these awesome helpers.

The Nutcracker!

I had been hoping to stay the night before the Nutcracker with my girls in Spokane but it was a busy week and I just didn't do it.  Then we were sitting at Ava's basketball game that morning and Ed decided to book us a room so we threw our stuff together and hit the road.  We shopped, ate, and, of course, played in the pool:

We met up by the big tree for lunch:

And aunt Nette came to join us!

We were leaving and I saw the stars of the show walk out so we grabbed a picture with them--that was a first!

December

December started out with some really beautiful snow and it was a good thing since we had the Casebolt kids for the weekend.
I hardly saw them at all:

manic monday.

I have been, for years, wanting to have Christmas lights down the length of our fence.  I finally bought the lights, went out in the freezing snowing outdoors, and hung those beauties up.  And I admired them all night.  And told my kids multiple times how proud I was of myself for getting them out there.
That was last night.
This morning, after being rear ended on the way to school, I came home to find that Cooper had somehow reached through the fence and literally ripped apart every strand of lights.  Smashed the giant light bulbs, shredded the cords.
I must say just a tiny bit of me died.
December, I had higher hopes for you.
As for Cooper?  He somehow still weaseled his way in here:
I think he looks sorry, though.

Apple Cup

The forecast was 15.
So I sent these two:
and stayed home to snuggle with these two:
Good decision.

Tree Day!

So beautiful!

And then we warmed ourselves up at Grandma's with some hot chocolate and treats!

Snow!

Both boys were literally begging to shovel.
These are good times.
